Caymax Sports Ltd. is the owner and organizer of the annual Cayman Islands Classic, the largest Sport Tourism Event in the Cayman Islands.  We are an innovative sports consulting organization and leading provider of competitive tournaments, focusing on creating exciting and memorable events for the college teams, students, fans and alumni.

Caymax Sports, Ltd. hosts the annual Cayman Islands Classic, a high profile preseason NCAA Division 1 Basketball Tournament. The tournament features 16 top Division 1 Men’s and Women’s College Basketball Teams throughout the United States. Caymax has successfully run this tournament for the past 7 years and is now expanding its offerings to other sports.

CEO

Joe Wright

Joe was drafted in the 2nd round of the Continental Basketball Association draft, and later played professional basketball for 13 years in 11 foreign countries.  While overseas, Joe taught Junior League basketball skills to youth. After retiring, he started a sports consulting company that helped pro basketball players establish themselves overseas.  Joe graduated from Kansas State.  During his college career, he was one of 15 Junior College players in the nation to be invited to try out for the 1984 Olympic team.  Joe is still listed among the all-time best scorers in the Kansas State Media guide, scoring 782 points in two seasons. Joe enjoys giving back to his community by teaching basketball skills at his local YMCA and helping spearhead local fundraisers.  Joe Founded the Cayman Islands Classic with Victor and they have not looked back.

Victor O’Garro

Voot played Pro Basketball from 1973-1975 and is a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame for Trinidad & Tobago. Because of Voot’s outstanding, professional career, he was awarded the Hummingbird Medal, a prestigious honor bestowed upon the nation’s best basketball player. Currently, Voot is the Technical Director of Cayman Islands Basketball Association, a position he has held for the past 23 years.  

Legal Counsel

Al Wilson

Al Wilson, the legal counsel for the Cayman Islands Grand Slam, brings a wealth of expertise and a deep commitment to ensuring the tournament’s success. Al is known for his sharp legal acumen and strategic guidance. His extensive knowledge of both local and international regulations ensures that every aspect of the tournament runs smoothly and in full compliance with legal standards. Al’s dedication to excellence and his passion for the sport make him an invaluable asset to the Cayman Islands Grand Slam team.

Consultant

Collin Anglin

Collin was the Director of Sports for the Cayman Islands Government from 2010 – 2019 until he retired.  During his tenure as Sports Director, he was involved in nearly every major Sports Tourism Event held in the Cayman Islands. He now runs his own Sports Consultancy Business and we are excited to have him involved with the organization of the tournament.  Collin also represented the Cayman Islands in the sport of basketball for more than 20 years.
